Immigrant Ancestor

Between December 1652 and May 1654, Wynant Gerritse van der Poel and Trijntje Tryntje Melgers van der Poel arrived in Beverwyck, New Netherland. Accompanied by their son, Melgert.8

Some Life Events of Interest

Wynant was literate, could write, and signed his name as "Wynandt Gerritsen vande Poel", which he did on a petition presented at an Extraordinary Session of the Court of Commissary and Magistrates of Fort Orange and the village of Beverwyck held in Fort Orange, June 17, 1660. Most, if not all, instances when Wynant's name is mentioned in the Minutes of the Court at Fort Orange and Beverwyck, he is named as Wynant Gerritsen and at the index entry of volume II, for "Van der Poel, Wynandt Gerritsen", one is directed to "see Gerritsen, Wynandt".9


Wynant operated a sawmill and was a cabinet maker in Beverwyck10
