In September 1657, Lawrence Tyler resided in Cranbrook, Kent, England. The will of Thomas Ensigne of Cranbrook, yeoman, makes reference to lands he owned in Staplehurst and Cranbrook that were being rented to Lawrence Tyler. The land is described as comprising 6 pieces totalling 26 acres and including his messuage (house, house lot and adjacent land used by the household) a barn, garden, orchard, and close.5
