BrideSimon Wolcott married Martha Pitkin, daughter of William Pitkin, on 17 October 1661 in Windsor, Hartford Co., Connecticut Colony, New England. Martha was described in the Windsor Records as "late from England".
     "There is a current (1912) tradition - which we trace to a respectable source and believe to be authentic - that she came on a visit to her brother (William Pitkin, Esq., of East Harford, Attorney General and Treasurer of the Colony) and that some of the leading men of the Colony desirous of securing her residence in the country through a suitable marriage connection selected her future husband as the most promising young man then in the Colony to make a proposal to her."1
WidowShe became a widow at 47 years of age when her husband Simon died on 11 September 1687.1
