     This date is according to the Sheridan County Records office. Other records, most notably Catherine's application for a widow's pension based on Will's military service, indicate they were married on 15 January by a Justice of the Peace in Sheridan, Wyoming.9,10
WidowShe became a widow at 42 years of age when her husband William died on 8 April 1925; Cause of death is recorded as Cancer of Liver.11,12

Military

Military PensionOn 24 April 1925 in Crescent City, Del Norte Co., California, Catherine Ohlheiser applied for and received a Widow's Pension based on her husband's service in the Spanish American War.
     The pension was to be at the rate of $20 per month until the following June when it was to increase to $30 per month. She was also entitled to receive an additional $4 per month for each of her children under 16 years of age, Claire Maxine, William J., and Frederick J. (That minor's allowance was increased to $6 per month the following year.) The allowances for her minor children was to end as each child turned sixteen years old.18

Residences and Censuses

7 June 1900 She appeared on the Federal Census of Lead City, Lawrence Co., South Dakota, in the household of her mother, Mary Mulvaney. The census shows 17 year old Kate was attending school... she graduated from Lead's St. Patrick's Catholic High School the following year, on the 26th of June 1901.19
In 1905 23 year old Kate appeared on the South Dakota State Census living at 325 Addie St., Lead, Lawrence Co., South Dakota, in the household of her mother, Mary Mulvaney. On the 10th of April, Kate Mulvaney signed a Teacher's Contract with the Cheyenne School District No. 12, Laurence (sic) County, South Dakota, to teach for a term of 9 months commencing on the same date. Her pay was to be $45 per month (Equivalent in purchasing power to $2590 in 2012 dollars.)20,21
In 1908, Catherine Ohlheiser and William Joseph Ohlheiser resided in 430 S. Tschirgi St., Sheridan, Sheridan Co., Wyoming. They were married in Sheridan, Wyoming in 1908 and their first child was born there the same year. Will's brother Oren was also living in Sheridan in 1908, at the same address, and the city directory for that year lists them as partners in the Ohlheiser Bros. saloon.22,23
She and William Joseph Ohlheiser appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Reno, Washoe Co., Nevada, at 215 1/2 Rock St., enumerated 20 April 1910. Their child, one and a half year old Marjorie, was listed as living with them.
     The family, 40 year old William and his wife (noted as his second wife) of two years, 27 year old Kate, along with Marjorie were living in a rented house. Will is shown as having been born in New York, his father in Germany and his mother in New York; Kate says she was born in Minnesota and both of her parents were born in New York. She also says she had only one child born, and one living child... presumably Marjorie, who was born in Wyoming.
     William had been employed all of the previous year and at the time of the ennumeration he was working as a shipping clerk.24
In 1911, Catherine Ohlheiser and William Joseph Ohlheiser were living at the 414 N. Front, Medford, Jackson Co., Oregon. Catherine is shown as the proprietor of the rooming house in the Jackson County Directory.25
In 1918, Catherine Ohlheiser and William Joseph Ohlheiser were registered to vote in Elk River, Del Norte Co., California.
     In the Index to Precinct Register for Elk River, Del Norte Co., to and including 5 October 1918, Nos. 143 & 144, both were registered as Democrats. Will's occupation was that of Electrician and Catherine's was that of Housewife.26
In 1920, Catherine Mulvany and William Joseph Ohlheiser were registered to vote in Crescent City, Del Norte Co., California.
     William registered as Democrat, Catherine registered as Republican.26
She and William Joseph Ohlheiser appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Crescent City, Del Norte Co., California, at Elk Valley, enumerated 3 February 1920. Their children Marjorie, Claire, William and Frederick were listed as living with them.27
In 1922, Catherine Mulvany and William Joseph Ohlheiser were registered to vote. They are listed in the Index to the Precinct Register for Elk River, Del Norte Co., Nos. 136 & 137.
     Will once again registered as a Democrat and Catherine as a Republican. Will's occupation was now that of Farmer and Catherine's was still that of Housewife.3
She appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Crescent City, Del Norte Co., California, at 117 "A" St., Eldridge Addition, enumerated 10 April 1930,
     Catherine is shown as a 47 year old widow, who owned her own home which she valued at $5000. The family was reported as having a radio, unlike most of their neighbors - most of whom were renting rather than owning their homes.. Her children Marjorie, William and Frederick were listed as living with her.
     Twenty-one year old Marjorie and eighteen year old Bill were both working. Fred at fourteen years old was not employed. Her twenty year old daughter Maxine was living and working in Palo Alto, California.28
Between 1940 and 1944, Catherine Mulvany was carried on the Voter Registration Rolls in Crescent City, Del Norte Co., California; Voter Registration.3
She appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Fields Landing, Humboldt Co., California, enumerated 17 April 1940.
     Fields Landing was a quite small "village" in the Loleta Township. The streets were un-named, aside from Main Street and Side Street. Catherine, 57 years old, had been working for Mr. and Mrs. Paulsen (86 years and 78 years old) as their housekeeper in their home on the side street since about the end of November of the previous year. Catherine indicated that she had still been living in Del Norte County five years earlier.29
