Some Background

Herodias Long was also known as Harwood Hicks, Hored Long and possibly Odias Long.2

Birth - Marriage - Death

ChildHerodias Long was born circa 1622, in England. This year for her birth is calculated based on her statement in her petition in 1665 requesting a seperation from George Gardiner... she said then that "in a little while after (her marriage to John Hicks) was brought to New England, when she was between 13 and 14 years old and lived 2 12 at Weymouth and then came to Rhode Island about 1640..."
John Hicks first appears in Weymouth about 1636 and in Rhode Island in 1638. Making a cautious assumption Herodias was somewhat accurate in giving her age at the time of her immigration, 13-14 years old, it would place her birth at about 1622-1623.3
BrideHerodias Long married John Hicks on 14 March 1637 in St. Faith's (Crypt of St. Paul's), London. This is the date the marriage license was issued.4
Second MarriageCirca 1643, Herodias Long married second George Gardiner. Herodias was first married to John Hicks (m.1636, England) - she divorced from him 2 Dec 1643 in Rhode Island. (Hicks obtained a divorce from her in New Netherland 1 June 1655.) From about 1643 Herodias and George Gardiner lived together in a "common Law" marriage, which lasted 21 years and resulted in seven children.3
Third MarriageCirca 1665, Herodias Long married third John Porter.1
