Military

Military ServiceOn 7 January 1942, while living in Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut,working as a clerk at Phoenix Mutual Insurance Company, Laurence enlisted as a Corporal to serve during World War II . He advanced quickly and had reached the rank of Major by the time of his discharge at the end of the war.9
Military ServiceHe served during the Korean Conflict.After his discharge from the Army at the end of WWII, Laurence was automatically placed in the military reserves and was called up to serve again between 5 September 1950 and 18 July 1952.He was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany for the duration of this enlistment.10

Laurence Irvin Corkum appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Everett, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, in the household of his parents, Chesley and Helena Jane Corkum.11
Laurence appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut, at 52 Preston St., enumerated 5 April 1930. As his mother had died, and his father was working as a ship's carpenter, Laurence, 13 years old, was living with his sister Mildred, her husband, Raymond Hatch, and their children, Frank, Raymond, and Wilbur.12
He appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of East Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut, at 40 Phelps St., enumerated 1 April 1940. Laurence, 23 years old and working as a clerk for an insurance company, was living in East Hartford with his sister Mildred, her husband, Raymond Hatch, and their children, Frank, Raymond, Wilbur and Rae Marie. Laurence's and Mildred's retired father Chelsey Corkum was also living with them.13
Circa 1950, Laurence Irvin Corkum lived in Bad Tolz, Germany. He was stationed here during the Korean Conflict.14
